L. Ron Hubbard's conviction for theft

His later preoccupation with "Ethics" and moral behaviour make it all the more strange that, in August 1948, Hubbard was arrested and fined for petty theft. He had attempted to pass a fraudulent check. This illustrates both his desparate shortage of cash at the time - just one year before he wrote Dianetics - and his considerable lack of personal ethics.
