Thüringische Kleinstadt an der oberen Saale und der Grenze zu Bayern.
Hirschberg hat ca. 2500 Einwohner und liegt 450 m über NN. Die oberhalb
Hirschbergs liegende Burg wurde vermutlich vor 1200 gebaut, Hirschberg wird
1397 erstmals als Stadt bezeichnet.

Hirschberg is a little town in the upper region of the river Saale in
Thuringia at the border to Bavaria. It has ca. 2500 inhabitants. Froebel
moved in the summer of 1797 to Hirschberg to learn from the forester Witz
about forestry, valuation, landsurveying and geometry.
